Technology – The core of the LiquidSens sensors

Concentration

The measurement principle of the LiquidSens sensors lies in the calibration of the sensors with the liquids to be measured. The sensors of SensAction measure the velocity of the sound waves and the density of the liquid. The temperature of the liquid is read out additionally.

With this multiparameter measurement the concentration of the mixture of liquids can be displayed exactly. The measurements are very precise and the parameters are calculated internally, so that the concentration of the liquids can be seen directly and immediately.

Acoustic Waveguide

The core of the LiquidSens sensors of SensAction is a new “Acoustic Waveguide”. It works with the principle of surface acoustic waves (SAW) and is able to measure very precisely the concentration of liquids

Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW)

Surface acoustic waves, e.g. Rayleigh waves or Lamb waves, are sound waves of high frequency, that can be compared in their physical behaviour with the seismic waves of an earth quake: They propagate on the surface over long distances.

With the physical principles of the propagation of surface acoustic waves it is now possible to detect very precisely the concentration of liquids in a double configuration sensor (acoustic waveguide) with a transducer as sender and another one as receiver. This is possible by measuring the transmission time and the amplitudes of the waves in the liquid and over the surface.
